New PLC Control System for K+K Steam Peelers

BMA Nederland B.V. introduce their new PLC control system for the proven K+K steam peelers. The first steam peeler equipped with the new control system will be commissioned in December 2006 in a potato processing factory in Spain. The control system is based on the S7 PLC from Siemens and includes an easy-to-use operator interface with a touch panel. The factory- tested software ensures short commissioning time and trouble-free and safe operation.

The new control system can optionally be equipped with a TeleService module and was developed in close cooperation with BMA Schaltanlagen GmbH.

Characteristics:

safe and reliable operation
proven design
low maintenance costs
easy to use operator interface
optimized combination of mechanical equipment and controls
short commissioning time
TeleService optionally available

TeleService (TS) gives BMA´s customers access to remote servicing and remote diagnosis from the BMA office. It allows BMA’s experts to respond almost instantaneously, and it may even help cut down on travelling expenses. All BMA steam peelers equipped with the new BMA control system can be adapted for TeleService support. The only hardware needed is a parameterizable TS adapter for the CPU, a modem, and an analogue telephone line near the machine.

Once these technical conditions have been met, the CPU can be linked up to the BMA service centre via adapter, modem and telephone network. No connection is made unless this has been arranged beforehand. This is intended to maintain security in the factory and prevent uncontrolled outside interference with the control system. For BMA staff, the TeleService means that they have the same diagnostic options at their disposal that they would also use when directly connecting a programming unit on site. The speed at which data are transmitted depends partly on the local telephone network.

The customer is always free to decide whether or not to permit access to the machine controls.
